*full reflections on each song will be added soon :)
Welcome Back to Disney!ππ I hope you enjoyed my last post on A Definitive Ranking of EVERY Song from the FIRST Hannah Montana Soundtrack, because today we’re continuing this little blog post series by talking all about the FOREVER ICONIC and UNFORGETTABLE Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus soundtrack album.πΆπΏ But, as always, before we get into this song ranking I just want to give a brief history about this soundtrack album. Along with some of my memories associated with it.π
As the title suggests, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus is a double album by Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana and as herself, that was released by Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records on June 26, 2007.πΆπΏπThe first disc is the soundtrack for the SECOND season of the hit Disney Channel series Hannah Montana that’s credited to Cyrus’ titular character Hannah Montana. And the second disc is Cyrus’ debut studio album. Both are in the genre of pop rock, but the latter is a little more rock oriented and has more “risk-taking” lyrics.
As mentioned in my previous post, when talking about the FIRST Hannah Montana soundtrack, the series Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel on March 24, 2006 and became an immediate commercial success with 5.4 million viewers.πππ The pilot episode itself earned the channel the highest ratings in its history at the time. And therefore, the following month, it was reported that an accompanying soundtrack and Miley Cyrus’ debut studio album had both begun production, the latter of which was scheduled to be released in early 2007.
According to sources, Miley once stated that “most songs for the first season reflect the show, with Miley or Hannah making sure the other doesn’t get caught or whatever,” suggesting that the tracks off the first soundtrack provided series producers with the opportunity to “make sure that everyone understood the characters”. By comparison, Miley described material used for the second season’s soundtrack as “more speaking out to the fans”. Which this album definitely does just that in the BEST way. As there are many positive, self-empowering messages for anyone, but especially for girls, throughout this soundtrack album.ππ©·
While Hannah Montana 2 continues to discuss Miley Cyrus’ double life as seen on the show, notably in the tracks “Rock Star” and “Old Blue Jeans”, the message of friendship is also addressed in the songs “True Friend” and “You and Me Together”, as well as the message of maintaining an optimistic look on life can be found in the songs “Nobody’s Perfect”, “Life’s What You Make It”, and “Make Some Noise”. Meet Miley Cyrus explores a little more serious of subjects like romantic relationships and loss. For instance, its closing track “I Miss You” is a dedication to Miley’s late grandfather, which is as serious and as personal as one could get with a song.❤π❤ππ₯Ή
As you would expect, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, with its first week selling 326,000 copies.ππ In doing so, it surpassed the first-week sales of the original Hannah Montana soundtrack, which opened with 281,000 units the previous year. Five songs from the record appeared on the Billboard Hot 100, four of those being debuts on which three were credited to the fictional Hannah Montana character and one to Miley Cyrus.π The highest new entry was “Life’s What You Make It” at number 25.πThe soundtrack album has since become certified quadruple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for exceeding shipments of four million units.π Miley Cyrus was also the seventh solo artist to chart at number one on the Billboard 200 under the age of 18.π The album also charted well on national record charts throughout Oceania and Europe, appearing in the Top 20 in several countries.π The album received a multi-platinum certification by Music Canada for opening at number three on the Canadian Albums Chart, platinum certifications by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in Sweden and the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) in Australia, as well as gold certifications by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in the United Kingdom and the Mexican Association of Phonographic Producers (AMPROFON) in Mexico).π
“Nobody’s Perfect” was originally released on March 20, 2007, with the reissue of the original Hannah Montana soundtrack, and on May 15, 2007 the track served as the lead single from Hannah Montana 2. “Nobody’s Perfect” peaked at number 27 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest charting Hannah Montana single ever.ππ And despite not releasing official follow-up singles after that, several other tracks from Hannah Montana 2 also charted in the U.S.. As mentioned briefly before, having entered the chart at number 25, “Life’s What You Make It” was the highest-peaking track from the record at the time.π While “Rock Star”, “Make Some Noise”, and “True Friend” charted in the lower ends of the Billboard Hot 100, respectively reaching numbers 81, 92, and 99.π When it came to Miley’s debut studio album, “See You Again” was released as the lead single from that on December 29, 2007, and it peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Making it her first song to peak in the Top 10 in the U.S..ππ “Start All Over” was released as the second single on March 11, 2008, but only in Australia.π²π However, the song still peaked at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S..π
When it came to promotion of the album Miley Cyrus performed songs from Hannah Montana 2 as Hannah Montana live for the first time on March 28, 2007, at the Hannah Montana: Live in London concert held at the Koko Club in London, England.ππ€❤π She also promoted the soundtrack performing live as the character at the opening ceremony of the 2007 Disney Channel Games (which I vividly remember watching as a kid for the first time when it aired on TV at the timeπ) and at the 2007 Good Morning America Summer Concert Series. The day after the soundtrack album’s release, a free concert was held at the courtyard of the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles, California to promote the soundtrack alongside Miley’s debut studio album, where she performed songs from both albums as Hannah Montana and as herself. Miley also performed as herself, the songs “See You Again” and “G.N.O. (Girl’s Night Out)” from Meet Miley Cyrus, at the closing ceremony of the 2007 Disney Channel Games held on April 27, 2007. Marking the first time she performed as herself and not as Hannah Montana.π² (Which is another fond memory I have of watching those performances on Disney Channel at the time as a kid.π) The soundtrack album was further promoted with Miley Cyrus’ first headlining concert tour, the Best of Both Worlds Tour (2007-2008).πππ©·π
Speaking of the tour, Miley Cyrus embarked on the Best of Both Worlds Tour from October 2007 to March 2008 in the U.S. and Canada. That tour primarily served as a promotional tool for Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. However, some songs from the FIRST Hannah Montana soundtrack were also included in the set list. Of course, the tour proved to be commercially successful as well, having grossed $54 million by its conclusion, while its 2008 film adaptation Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert earned $70 million.
In-between touring, Miley Cyrus continued to promote the soundtrack album, as she also performed “I Miss You” on The Oprah Winfrey Show on December 20, 2007. And on New Year’s Eve in 2007, she performed “Start All Over”, “See You Again”, and “We Got The Party” with the Jonas Brothers at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in New York City.πContinuing into the new year, Miley performed "G.N.O. (Girl’s Night Out)” at the 2008 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards on March 29th. And on April 14, 2008, she performed “See You Again” and “Good and Broken” at Idol Gives Back. She also performed “G.N.O. (Girl’s Night Out)” with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem for The Muppets’ Special Studio DC: Almost Live on Disney Channel (which I also remember seeing during Disney Channel commercial breaks).
In March 2008, the record reached number six the same week that the Best of Both Worlds Concert reached number 10 in its second week of availability.ππ In doing so, Miley Cyrus became the first person with two records in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 since Ray Charles accomplished this in 2004. The soundtrack album became the 71st best performing Billboard 200 album of all time after spending a total of 65 weeks on the chart, with 23 of those being on the Top 10, and reaching numbers 11 and 16 on the Billboard 200 Year-End Chart of 2007 and 2008, respectively, and also number 112 on the Billboard 200 Decade-End Chart (2000s).
Yeah, so, I don’t really know what all that chart stuff means either, but I just thought I'd throw all those facts out there because they were a little interesting to me and worth noting here.π But, those facts did not make me like and/or enjoy the album any more or less than I already did, nor did it effect my ranking of the songs on this list. Also, having said that, no matter where this album or the songs themselves ranked on the charts back then, I didn’t know or care about any of that either when I was a kid hearing these songs for the first time and listening to the album. ‘Cause I just LOVED the show and LOVED the songs no matter what anyone else said. I was a big fan of Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana at the time, and like all of Miley’s Disney music discography, all of the songs on this album still hold up today. I still LOVE them a lot.ππ©· That’s why I wanted to create this post, even though I’ve already sort of done a post about this album and these songs on this blog before. But, that previous post was mostly about this album in relation to the Best of Both Worlds Concert. Whereas, this post is solely just about the songs themselves. But if you haven’t read that post, then check that out after you finish reading through this one, because that was one of my favorite posts I’ve ever done and it’s another fun trip down memory lane.π Basically, any time that I get the chance or opportunity to talk about this soundtrack album, I’m VERY HAPPY to and I'm always going to. So, that’s what I’ve done. As I mentioned in my last post, I relistened to this whole album over again and chose to rank each of the songs from it from what I like and believe to be the LEAST and MOST BEST. Although, really there are NO songs that I dislike on this soundtrack album. ‘Cause they’re literally all SO GOOD and SO NOSTALGIC. There are some songs that are better than others, but not by much. Again, they’re ALL TRULY GREAT songs. So, this ranking is just for fun, for the sake of wanting to rank things.π
Before we officially get into my ranking of these songs from Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus, I of course have to share my earliest memories when it comes to this soundtrack album.π How I was first introduced to it. ‘Cause this was a staple album from my childhood. I was ten years old when this soundtrack album came out, and I remember when I got this album for the first time. I don’t think it was exactly June when I got this soundtrack album on CD (the month that it was actually released), because I think it was a couple of months after. Closer to the beginning of a new school year, like August or maybe late July. It all happened one night though, when my sisters and I were going to be spending the night with our cousin at her house, and before my aunt drove us to their house, for some reason we stopped at a Walmart for something. And I remember as we walked by the CD aisle to look at the CDs, (because that was always a must for me whenever we went to any store that had CDs or DVDs, to look at what's out) and I remember seeing and pointing out the new Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus CD. I wanted it so bad the moment I saw it, but it was the ONLY ONE left.π²π Which just shows how popular it truly was. And I remember my cousin wanting it, too, but then I guess she knew and saw that I wanted it more, and that I was maybe more of a fan, and she was SO KIND and SWEET as she offered to let me have the last CD the store had of it.ππ So, my aunt bought it for me that night when we were at Walmart. And then I remember being so happy, and when we finally got to our cousin’s house, I remember at some point my sisters and I being in our cousin’s room hanging out, and me playing the album on her CD player or radio thing she had. And I’ve never forgotten that moment, and I still have that exact CD today. Although, the case is a little broken and has some cracks, because it was used A LOT by me and taken on many car rides, etc. Though, both the CDs themselves work, which is all that matters.π
I also have another very fond, special memory of it being the night before my first day of either fourth or fifth grade at the time... (I can’t remember, and I don't want to do that math right nowπ) but I remember listening to this album as I went to sleep and just had it playing the whole night. I shared a room with my little sister, so I had it playing silently enough not to wake her up, but also loud enough where I could still hear some of it as I went to sleep myself. And because there were/are two discs of the album, I obviously just listened to one that night, because I don't remember waking up to put in the next one when the other one finished. So, I don’t remember exactly which one disc from the soundtrack album I had playing on repeat to put me to sleep that night, but I know it was one of them. I'm thinking it was the Meet Miley Cyrus disc, but again, I'm not for sure.π€ So, that’s another memory I have of this soundtrack album that I’ll just never forget. ‘Cause even today, when I listen to some of these songs on this soundtrack album they still take me right back to that night when I was 10 years old listening to it. I also have very special, fond memories of just always listening to this soundtrack album, and singing and dancing along to it by myself and even with my sisters and cousins. ‘Cause there was even one time when my sisters, cousins, and I went through the songs to try to make up a dance to one of them, and I remember us making up a dance to Miley’s song “Let’s Dance” to perform in front of our family for a New Years Party.ππΆπΏ So, just stuff like that.
Like I said, this was always a soundtrack album that I had on repeat as a kid. It was definitely one of my favorites and still is.ππ©· I not only listened to this soundtrack album when I was a teenager at times, but even in my early twenties, and even at the age I am now, I still like listening to this album. Plus, a lot of the messaging and lyrics always make more sense and are even more relatable to me as I've gotten older. A lot of the songs on this soundtrack album are pretty deep and thought-provoking. It's just one of those albums that TRULY NEVER GETS OLD. And, as I've mentioned before, this soundtrack album also gave us the ICONIC and UNFORGETTABLE Best of Both Worlds Concert, which also holds special memories of its own for me. As mentioned here. But back to the soundtrack album itself, whether just listening for nostalgia purposes or for just some great, feel-good music, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus is always a go-to for me. So, what are we waiting for? Let’s get into A Definitive Ranking of EVERY Song from Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus Soundtrack Album!!ππ©·ππΏ
Oh, and I know that I mentioned in the first post of this little blog post series that each album I review from a Disney Channel star will be given its own post...even though, fun fact (that I just found out, too, while researching), on January 22, 2021 the two sections of the album were re-issued as two separate albums for the first time on digital platformsπ²...but, since Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus was ORIGINALLY released as a double album is all the reason why I decided to include talking about BOTH in this ONE post. Though, still both separately. As I'm not ranking all the songs together. You'll see the songs from disc one, Hannah Montana 2, ranked first and then the songs from disc two, Meet Miley Cyrus, ranked after that. ‘Cause Life’s What You Make It, and Nobody’s Perfect, so You and Me Together, Right Here, right now, Let’s Dance and Make Some Noise, put on our Old Blue Jeans, because it’s a G.N.O….Okay, I’m done.π€£ I’ve never been good at that.π For real now, let’s get into A Definitive Ranking of EVERY Song from Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus Soundtrack Album!!ππΆπΏππ©·

Well, that concludes A Definitive Ranking of EVERY Song from Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus Soundtrack Album!πππΆπΏ I really enjoyed getting to go back and listen to these songs once again, and to be taken back to a much simpler, special, joyful time. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did creating it. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be ranking the songs from this soundtrack album, but this is my ranking of them as of now, and I’m pretty solid on it. In other words, I feel good about it, even though I did change a few around at the last minute. Again, even though I’ve ranked these songs from this double album from what I believe to be the LEAST and MOST BEST, or my LEAST and MOST FAVORITE, ALL of the songs on this soundtrack album are TRULY GREAT. I just had to be really picky and critical just for the sake of this ranking. But, again, it’s all just for fun. ‘Cause all the songs on this soundtrack album are UNSKIPPABLE. If there could be a perfect album, this one would definitely be one of them. Though, in the words of Hannah Montana, “Nobody’s (aka nothing’s) Perfect”. Now, I definitely suggest anyone reading this, even though I just kind of made you re-listen to these songs through this post, still go give this soundtrack album another listen. If for nothing else, at least for nostalgia sake, because it’s always worth it. Hit that follow button so that you get notified when my next post goes up, and come Back to Disney tomorrow for more GREAT MUSIC from Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana!!!πππΆπΏππ©·✌
