A Definitive Ranking of EVERY Song from the Hannah Montana Forever Soundtrack (MONTH OF MILEY)

*full reflections on each song coming later!(:

Welcome Back to Disney!πŸ‘‹πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‰I hope you enjoyed my last post on A Definitive Ranking of Every Song from Miley Cyrus’ Can’t Be Tamed Album, because today we’re continuing this Month of Miley and talking all about the ONE AND ONLY Hannah Montana Forever soundtrack.πŸ’ΏπŸŽΆπŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’™This is not only the LAST soundtrack/album from Miley’s Disney discography, but it also marks the end of this Month of Miley blog post series.😞So, this will be a bittersweet one. But still a FUN, NOSTALGIC post for you guys. Hopefully.πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘But, as always, before we get into my official ranking of the songs from this soundtrack, I’m just going to give a brief history about it, and share the memories I have associated with this soundtrack. So, let’s get into it!πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‰

Hannah Montana Forever is the soundtrack album for the FOURTH and FINAL season of the hit, popular Disney Channel original series Hannah Montana.πŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’™πŸ“ΊIt was released on October 15, 2010 by Walt Disney Records. All eleven tracks are performed by the show’s lead actress Miley Cyrus, but are credited to the character she plays on the show, Hannah Montana. Billy Ray Cyrus, Iyaz, and Sheryl Crow appear as featured vocalists on the soundtrack, as well. The soundtrack is a primarily pop record, with additional influences from teen pop, dance-pop, pop-rock, power pop, and country pop musical styles.πŸ’ΏπŸŽΆπŸŽΈπŸŽΉπŸŽ»πŸ₯

The opening song on this soundtrack, “Gonna Get This”, was written by Niclas Molinder, Joacim Persson, Johan Alkenas, and Drew Ryan Scott, and is a duet with British Virgin Islander, Iyaz. Iyaz was a fan of Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana. As he once claimed that he listened to Miley’s music very often (I mean, who didn’t?πŸ€”πŸ˜Š), and that Hannah Montana was among his favorite TV series with others from Disney Channel. According to my research, he once stated, “I’ve been watching the show for a very long time, and finally got the opportunity to do a song with Miley.” Also according to Iyaz,  “Gonna Get This” was recorded rapidly in April 2010 because of his appearance on an episode of the show. Apparently, he arrived to the studio at first not knowing what to expect and became hesitant, but in the end he could not believe they “pulled it off”. Iyaz also described “Gonna Get This” as a song with an edge, claiming that Miley added her usual signature style to the song, while he put an “island twist” on it. In July 2010, “Gonna Get This” actually leaked onto the internet, but was entitled “This Boy, That Girl”. I, personally, like “Gonna Get This” as the title better.😊 But, both verses are in the song, so they both make sense.

Toby Gad also contributed to this soundtrack by co-writing “Ordinary Girl”, “Are You Ready”, and “Que Sera”.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ “Are You Ready” was actually a song written by Toby Gad, BC Jean, Lyrica Anderson, and was actually recorded for Hannah Montana 3.😲In fact, it was leaked on the internet in November 2008, along with some other tracks from Hannah Montana 3, but it was ultimately not included on that 2009 soundtrack. Which, I can definitely see it being with the other songs on the Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack, because it definitely gives off a similar sound and vibe. But, it definitely worked for this album better.😊Sheryl Crow also contributed to the soundtrack doing a duet with Miley/Hannah on the song “Need a Little Love” that was solely written by Jaime Houston, and was featured on the Hannah Montana episode titled “It’s the End of Jake as We Know It”. While “Love That Lets Go” is a duet with Miley’s dad Billy Ray Cyrus (who also plays Miley Stewart’s dad, Robbie Ray Stewart, on the show) and was composed by Nikki Hassman and Adam Anders. The songs “Been Here All Along” and “I’m Still Good” were written by Chen Neeman, Jennie Lurie, and Aris Archontis.

According to Walt Disney Records, from intimate ballads to direct high-voltage pop, this soundtrack covers much musical ground. For instance, “Gonna Get This” is heavy on synthesizers and Caribbean-based melodies. While the ballad “Ordinary Girl” is a pop song characterized by its mature vocals and percussion-driven instrumentation. “Kiss It Goodbye” is an upbeat, pop-rock, dance-pop number. “Need a Little Love” is rich in pop harmonies. Apparently, “Are You Ready”’s upbeat sound was inspired by club music. “I’m Still Good” is an uptempo song with pop-rock characteristics in its musical composition. And the closing song on the soundtrack, “Barefoot Cinderella”, was described by Walt Disney Records as an explosion of pop music.

On July 6, 2010, “Ordinary Girl” was released to digital platforms as the lead single of the soundtrack, and as a physical single in European territories on September 15, 2010. The song peaked at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100.πŸ‘On September 3, 2010, “Are You Ready” was released digitally as the second single in European territories. On October 5, 2010, “Gonna Get This”, with R&B singer Iyaz, was released digitally in the U.S. and Canada as the third single. And that song peaked at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100.πŸ‘On December 10, 2010, “I’m Still Good” was released digitally and physically in European territories as the fourth and final single.

When it came to further promotion for the soundtrack, “Ordinary Girl” and “Are You Ready” were the FIRST two songs to premiere on Radio Disney, on July 1, 2010 and July 2, 2010. “I’m Still Good” and “Que Sera” premiered later, on August 13, 2010 and September 3, 2010. “I’m Still Good” was also given a promotional music video that was taken from a performance from the Hannah Montana episode “Been Here All Along”. “Que Sera” also received a music video that features a body double of Miley Cyrus at a recording studio while images rapidly display across the screen to show and portray the sequence of a teenage male attempting to redeem a relationship with a teenage female. On September 24, 2010, the song “Gonna Get This” premiered on Radio Disney and the music video premiered on Disney Channel. On October 16, 2010, Hannah Montana Forever had its broadcast debut, with a rebroadcast the two following days. And after the series finale of Hannah Montana, the song “Wherever I Go” premiered on Radio Disney as a promotional single, and it was also released as a promotional single to other online radio websites, including Pandora.

At the time, Hannah Montana Forever received generally mixed reviews.πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Heather Phares of AllMusic gave the album 2.5 out of 5 stars and stated, “Hannah Montana Forever doesn’t shy away from the fact that this is the end, or that Cyrus and her fans are growing up. Instead, these songs attempt to showcase the growing range of music Cyrus and her audience are listening to, but the results are all over the place…the album sounds scattered instead of versatile.” And I actually do kind of agree with that. I have always felt like this soundtrack, although versatile in terms of the genre and music styles, it is a little all over the place when looked at as a whole. In other words, it’s not as cohesive as majority of all the other Hannah Montana soundtracks. It just seems a little thrown together. And I don't know but I just always felt like something was missing from it. Heather from AllMusic also went on to criticize the annoying vocals in the songs “Que Sera” and “Kiss It Goodbye”, which yes, the vocals and sound of the latter song I can agree with. I mean, Miley can sing anything, it’s not her fault the song isn’t one of the best. It’s just one of those songs where she did the best she could with what she was given. But, yeah, you’ll see “Kiss It Goodbye” isn’t one of my favorites from this soundtrack, either. Again, no offense to Miley though.😊

Although, Heather from AllMusic did praise the songs “Ordinary Girl”, “I’ll Always Remember You”, “Love That Lets Go”, and “Been Here All Along”.πŸ‘ As she stated that “Not surprisingly, the album’s best songs are about farewells and embracing whatever may come next.” Which I also agree with 100%. But maybe that’s also just because I usually prefer ballads over the more upbeat, straight pop stuff.😊Heather from AllMusic also stated that, “By the time the album closes with “Barefoot Cinderella”, an easygoing pop track that sounds remarkably like Cyrus’ hit “Party in the U.S.A.”, Hannah Montana Forever proves that everyone involved with Hannah was ready to move on.”πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ Which, I agree with her last statement, but not her first.😊 As I do feel that, with how some of these songs are, and the soundtrack being not as cohesive nor as good as all the other Hannah soundtracks, that you definitely can tell everyone seemed done and ready to move on. You can tell that from this soundtrack and by listening to majority of the songs on it. But, I definitely don’t get “Party in the U.S.A” vibes at all from “Barefoot Cinderella”. So again, that, I don’t agree with. Entertainment Weekly was more generous, awarding the soundtrack a B+. πŸ‘And Common Sense Media made sense (ha, see what I did there?😊), and gave the album 4 out of 5 stars, stating that “The music from the Hannah Montana Forever soundtrack is a nice mix of pop-rock, synth beats, and sweet ballads that Hannah Montana is known for, as well as a satisfying wrap-up to four seasons of fun, friends, family, and music.” Which, I also do agree with, too. 'Cause this isn’t a terrible soundtrack by any means. Just not ALL of the songs on it are GREAT, but it worked for what the season of the show was. And it was a nice sendoff soundtrack.

Hannah Montana Forever debuted at #11 on the Billboard 200.πŸ‘Which, apparently, this was considered an all-time low for an artist. As no previous album of new material released by Miley had failed to reach the TOP 10. It was also the FIRST soundtrack in the Hannah Montana franchise to miss the TOP 10 since 2008’s Walmart exclusive Hannah Montana Hits Remixed. First-week sales for this soundtrack were projected to be around 28,000, which is over 109,000 less than the previous year’s Hannah Montana 3. However, Hannah Montana Forever was still certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on August 4, 2023.πŸ‘

Like I’ve said many times before when talking about these soundtracks/albums, those are all just words and numbers to me. 'Cause where this soundtrack landed on the charts really means nothing to me, but I still thought it was all worth noting here just because.😊Though, those facts did not make me like and/or enjoy this album any more or any less than I already did. Nor did it affect my thought process when ranking the songs for this post. So, in other words, no matter where this album or the songs themselves ranked on the charts back then, I didn’t know or care about any of that either back then, when I was a teenager hearing these songs for the first time and listening to this soundtrack. And I still don’t care about them now. ‘Cause I was still just a fan of anything Miley/Hannah at that time, and therefore I did still enjoy this soundtrack, no matter what anyone else said.πŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’™

Although, I will admit, this is the Hannah Montana soundtrack that I’ve listened to the least amount of times since it came out. In fact, even when it was first released in 2010, and I was gifted the CD for Christmas, I listened to it a few times, but then after that, especially after the show was over, I didn’t really go back to listen to this soundtrack a whole lot like I would the others. I would just watch reruns of the episodes on Disney Channel or watch my DVD of the episodes that I had, to hear/listen to the songs again. Speaking of the Hannah Montana Forever CD and DVD, there aren’t a lot of memories I have when it comes to this soundtrack. Really it’s just that one that I just briefly mentioned, which was when it was Christmas 2010 and my dad gifted me the CD of this soundtrack.πŸ’ΏπŸŽΆπŸŽ„And I do remember being excited about getting it and listening to it, but as I mentioned before, I didn’t listen to it a ton. I even remember just listening to my CD of this soundtrack all the way through once, and then the other times after that first time of me listening to it, I would then just skip some of the songs to just listen to the best ones. I guess, just like Miley and the show itself, I was kind of done with some things Hannah Montana related, too. I feel like I remember thinking even back then that this soundtrack wasn't the best. And interestingly enough, this was also the last Miley/Hannah soundtrack/album I ever got, as well. In other words, Hannah Montana Forever was the last CD in my Miley/Hannah collection. I never listened to her newer stuff after this soundtrack, either. Throughout the years I would just go back to listen to all her older stuff. All the previous soundtracks/albums that I've mentioned already in my previous posts.

So, I definitely took a break from listening to this soundtrack. In fact, it wasn't until my late teens early 20s when I went back to listen to certain songs from this soundtrack. Whenever I would rewatch the show, or just want to listen to some of the better songs from the soundtrack, that is. But I wouldn't even put in the CD I have of it to listen to those better songs, as I would just listen to them on YouTube. Having said that, I have talked about a couple of the songs from this soundtrack already on this blog before. But I’ve never talked about ALL of them. It’s also been a very long time since I’ve listened to this soundtrack from beginning to end. And I will say, after having now done so for this post, I did find a new LOVE and APPRECIATION for this soundtrack. Even though I still don’t think it’s the best from Miley’s Disney discography, it’s still a soundtrack worth listening to.πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’™So, are you ready? Well, that concludes A Definitive Ranking of EVERY Song from the Hannah Montana Forever Soundtrack!πŸŽ‰πŸŽΆπŸ’ΏπŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’™I really actually enjoyed getting to go back and listen to this soundtrack once again, and I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did creating it.😊 'Cause three things surprised me during my relisten of this soundtrack. One being that it was actually a little harder than I thought it would be to rank a few of the songs from this soundtrack. Especially the ones that I really liked. It was also surprising how a few that I loved when I was younger I didn’t really love as much now. So, I definitely didn’t rank these songs based on nostalgia alone. And the other thing that surprised me about this soundtrack after relistening to it from beginning to end was how sad and solemn it is. In fact, this is definitely the most sad Miley/Hannah soundtrack/album. Which again, I didn't expect or remember, but maybe should have. 'Cause it makes sense that it would be. But as you can tell too from my ranking of the songs above, too, there are A LOT more slower, sadder songs on this soundtrack which were also the better songs of the soundtrack.

Having said that, I do feel pretty good about my ranking of these songs. Especially the ones in my TOP 3, because the TOP 3 on this list…Well, really just the TOP 2, have always been my favorites from this soundtrack. And so, I guess that hasn’t changed.😊But again, I really do LOVE a lot of the other songs from this soundtrack , too. Ones that I didn’t use to love as much or pay much attention to when I was a teenager listening to these songs for the first time, but ones that I’ve now found a new LOVE and APPRECIATION for.😊

For me, this isn’t one of my most favorite Miley/Hannah soundtracks/albums, but it’s still a soundtrack that I will put on every once in a while. ‘Cause it’s not as bad as I once thought at one time or another, either. I would definitely suggest to anyone reading this to give this soundtrack another listen, because it does have some GREAT, RELATABLE songs. Even if they are more emotional and sad. So, let me know in the comments below what your TOP 3 favorite songs from this soundtrack are. Or just your FAVORITE

And now, sadly, this is not only the end of this post but also the end of this whole Month of Miley blog post series.😞But don't sign off just yet, because as promised in my FIRST post of this series, I said that once I finished relistening to ALL these soundtracks/albums that I would then share with you my official ranking of ALL the Miley/Hannah soundtracks/albums. So, I’ll do that now.😊 Miley’s Disney discography goes like this for me:

(from MOST to LEAST favorite)…

#1 Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus (2007) (I mean, 2 for 1…and EVERY song is GREAT. Some of the BEST Hannah Montana and Miley songs came from this soundtrack album. It’s also the MOST NOSTALGIC to me.)

#2 Breakout (2008) (A very, VERY close second. ‘Cause again, EVERY song is a BANGER. Also, one of the most NOSTALGIC to me.)

#3 Hannah Montana (2006) (Some of the other BEST Hannah songs came from this album. EVERY Hannah/Miley song is GREAT, UNSKIPPABLE. The featured, extra, other artists being on this soundtrack just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I still like majority of the songs on this album. And, I mean, it’s one of the MOST NOSTALGIC, SPECIAL, and MOST MEMORABLE because it’s the FIRST one.)

#4 Hannah Montana 3 (2009) (Again, EVERY song is GREAT. Truly an UNSKIPPABLE soundtrack, except for maybe that one remix song.)

#5 Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) (Not every song is GREAT, but I mean, it gave us The Climb (one of the TOP 10 GREATEST songs OF ALL TIME) and a few other BANGERS.)

#6 Can’t Be Tamed (2010) (Majority of the songs are GREAT and it’s one of the MOST NOSTALGIC to me. It's SO 2010s. Just when compared to all the albums above, it had to go lower.)

#7 Hannah Montana Forever (2010) (Just because this is the most solemn and sad album. There are upbeat songs, too, but the BEST songs are the more sad, ballad songs.)

#8 The Time of Our Lives EP (2009) (Although it gave us bangers like “Party in the U.S.A” and “When I Look At You”, this is last just because it’s the shortest of them all, and it needed more.)

Well, that sure was a trip down memory lane. Miley’s Disney discography is the BEST, UNTOUCHABLE, just TRULY ICONIC. But there are still some other GREAT and AMAZING albums from other Disney Channel stars that I can’t wait to talk about, too.πŸ˜ŠπŸ’ΏπŸŽΆ In fact, the next artist’s Disney discography that I’ll be talking about might just be a little more...MAGICAL.πŸ˜‰πŸͺ„So, hit that follow button to get notified when my next post goes up, and come Back to Disney soon for more trips down MUSIC memory lane! Bye for now!!✌πŸ‘‹πŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’™πŸ˜Š
