*full reflections on each episode will be added soon :)
Welcome Back to MK&A!!👋🎉 I’m SO EXCITED to finally share this new post with you guys today.😊I hope you enjoyed my last Back to MK&A post (here) where I relistened/rewatched, and ranked, EVERY song from The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley.👧👧🕵🐶🔍💼📺📼☎🎶🎹🎷🎸🎤 That was definitely another one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE posts that I’ve ever done for this blog. And today, I have hopefully another GREAT read for you guys.🤞‘Cause we’re going back to the late 90’s for one of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s other ICONIC and TRULY UNFORGETTABLE projects. A not-talked-about-enough TV series.. And, NO, I’m not talking about FULL HOUSE, because that actually is talked about a lot. But I wouldn’t mind it being talked about even more, because I LOVE that 90's show, too. (But, more on that for a future post.😉) No, I'm actually talking about Two of a Kind.📺👧👧👨👩🏠
This is another post that I couldn’t wait to create for the blog.😊I was only one years old when this series came out, so I didn’t see this show when it was airing live for the first time on cable, but when I was a teen (maybe 14 or 15) having already been a big fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley by that point in my life, I definitely went back to find and watch EVERY episode of this show. All thanks to my little sister, Amber, who at the time somehow found every episode for us to watch, being that it wasn't on cable TV or YouTube. So, shout out to you Amber!😊💕 Speaking of my sister, because of her, I have such fond memories of watching this show for the first time. In fact, I watched many episodes with her at the time when I was 14 or 15, and also many times after that by myself. And then later on, when I was in my later teens and early 20s, I would go back and watch some episodes here and there, by myself, and with both my sisters. Especially around the holidays, I always try to specifically watch just the holiday episodes for whatever holiday season it is. But it’s been a while since I sat down and watched the whole show from beginning to end. So, that’s what I decided to do this year and it couldn’t have been better. This is still just as GREAT a show as it ever was. It TRULY never gets old. And again, it’s a show that I don’t think is talked about enough.😞👎 Outside of Mary-Kate and Ashley fans, of course.😊👍 ‘Cause we know what's good. And this show is actually really good. I mean, if I'm being completely honest, not every episode of this show is perfect, but no show is. Every show has some bad episodes, including Two of a Kind. But, the few bad episodes doesn’t make it any less GREAT of a show as a whole. And because I feel like this show isn’t mentioned enough as it should be, as I’ve mentioned a couple of times now, I’m here to give it ALL the HYPE and recognition that I think it deserves. Well, at least, just some more hype. ‘Cause I’m not trying to act like the one and only true fan of this show or anything. I just want to show my love and appreciation for it.😊💕
So, for those of you who for some reason have never seen Two of a Kind…which, if you haven’t...what?!?…that’s kind of crazy😮…I’ll just give you some brief history about the show. And if you already know about this show then you can just skip past this part.😊👍
Two of a Kind is an American sitcom starring Mary-Kate and Ashley that aired on ABC as part of the network’s TGIF line-up from September 25, 1998 to July 9, 1999.👧👧📺 It had only one season (I know, I know. Just one?😔👎 I, too, wish they made more seasons of this show.) that consisted of 22 episodes. And this show was a pretty big deal back then, because not only was this the FIRST time Mary-Kate and Ashley would be starring in a sitcom as two different characters instead of sharing the same role, like in their first sitcom Full House, but it was also their FIRST television series since Full House ended in 1995. The series was produced by Dualstar Productions (Mary-Kate and Ashley's production company), Griffard/Adler Productions, and Miller-Boyett-Warren Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. In fact, or fun fact, prior to the company’s initial shutdown in 1999, Two of a Kind was the last series to be produced by Miller-Boyett Productions. The name Miller-Boyett Productions may sound familiar to you because it was a production company that also developed other ICONIC 90’s shows like Full House and Step by Step, just to name a couple.😊
Set in Chicago, Illinois, the show follows the adventures of Kevin Burke (played by Christopher Sieber), who’s a college professor and widower father.👨🏫 His wife died prior to the series, so…SPOILER ALERT, we don’t ever see her in the show.😔 But, Kevin believes there is a scientific explanation for everything except how to control his scheming 12-year-old daughters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Burke (played by Mary-Kate and Ashley). Of course, Mary-Kate and Ashley are twin sisters who are complete opposites. Ashley being the girly girl one, who crushes hard on boys, makes straight A’s, is more type-A, loves dancing and dreams of a modeling career.👧💅🥿💄👗🩰💃👦📚 While, Mary-Kate is the tomboy whose biggest interest is perfecting her jump-shot and curveball, and is not that great at school.👧👟👕🏀 🏒
The other main character is a 26-year-old woman named Carrie (played by Sally Wheeler), who’s a student in Kevin’s college class.👩🍼📚 She entered college a little later than “normal” because she was out exploring the world. Carrie is quirky, free-spirited, ambitious, and quick to speak her mind. So when she answers Kevin’s ad for a part-time babysitter for his girls, he’s at first convinced she’s nothing but trouble. But with some help from Mary-Kate and Ashley, who believe Carrie to be a dream-sitter come true, Kevin and Carrie put their differences aside and join forces to take care of the girls. However, throughout the series, Carrie still manages to drive Kevin crazy in apparently all the right ways.👨💗👩 So, the show revolves around the comedic situations that arise from the contrasting personalities of the twins, their father’s struggles, and the budding relationship between Kevin and Carrie. With the twins often trying to influence their father’s decisions.🏡👧👧👨👩
Other notable characters from the show include the recurring character of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s friend and classmate, Brian (played by Martin Spanjers).👦Mary-Kate and Ashley’s other friend and classmate Max (played by Orlando Brown).👦 Mary-Kate’s math tutor and Ashley’s first crush Taylor (played by Jesse Lee).👦 Kevin’s best friend since childhood, Eddie (played by David Valcin).👨 Carrie’s classmate and Saturday pizza delivery guy, Paul (played by Ernie Grunwald).👨🍕 With recurring characters, such as the most popular girl in Mary-Kate and Ashley’s 7th grade class, Jennifer Dilber (played by Anastasia Emmons).👧Carrie’s high school botanist friend who ends up dating Kevin, Nancy Carlson (played by Samantha Smith).👩And Kevin’s irresponsible younger brother, Matt (played by David Lascher).👨 There were also quite A LOT of notable guest stars who appeared on the show, too. Too many for me to list out here, but names that I'm sure you can find listed on sites such as IMDb.😊
As you can tell, the show has a very interesting concept, and it's actually a really good and funny show that still holds up today. It’s a nostalgic 90’s throwback comfort show for sure. If you LOVE anything Mary-Kate and Ashley, then you’ll definitely love this show, too, because it’s one of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s BEST projects they ever did. Well, mostly everything they put out was GREAT, but with this show Mary-Kate and Ashley deserved some Oscars for their performances. Truly, their acting is top-tier in Two of a Kind.👧👧👏👏📺 And it’s just always fun to see them play off of each other on camera, especially as these very different, much more exaggerated versions of themselves. So, what are we waiting for? Put on your chunky sandals or favorite platform sneakers, flip your baseball hat backwards or put your hair up with all the butterfly clips you can, and let’s get into the Top 10 BEST Episodes from Two of a Kind!👧👧👨👩🏡📺👟👡🦋👗🥳
Just a brief note before we begin: You’ll see that I only included my TOP 10 favorite episodes, and what I think are the BEST episodes, from this show in this post. And I ranked just those ten. I know, I know. I could have just ranked every episode from Two of a Kind, since there is only one season, but I thought I would just share my TOP 10 favorites just to save time and space. Plus, I mean, usually when i share my favorite episodes from my favorite Disney Channel shows, I also just usually share my TOP 10 or TOP 12 from those, too. So, I thought I’d treat this post and ranking just the same. I also don’t normally include holiday-themed episodes when choosing my favorite, and the best episodes from other shows (like the Disney Channel ones I’ve done in the past), but since this show only had one season and therefore not a ton of episodes to choose from, I just decided to also include the holiday-themed episodes in my TOP 10, too. If I truly found them to be TOP 10 worthy. So, I hope that makes sense. Now, for real this time, let’s finally get into the Top 10 BEST Episodes from Two of a Kind!😊🎉

Well, that concludes the Top 10 BEST Episodes from Two of a Kind!🎉👏👏😊 I really enjoyed getting to go back and rewatch all the episodes from this show no having more adult eyes and an adult mindset. Which, I’ve never really done before. This show’s title might be Two of a Kind, but it’s certainly ONE OF A KIND, just SO SPECIAL. I’ll probably forever go back and watch this show whenever I can, as I always have. And I HIGHLY recommend you do the same.😊👍 It’s just a nice, feel-good, family-friendly, 90’s comfort show. Definitely better than a lot of new shows out there today, and even other shows of its time. Unfortunately, this show is not streaming anywhere, but if you want the link to where I was able to watch it, thanks to some other Mary-Kate and Ashley fans, just feel free to DM me on Instagram, and I’ll let you know where you can find it. And I guess since I'm on the topic, for any of you streaming services reading this, please someone make Two of a Kind available to stream in HD or 4K. That would be GREAT.👍😊 Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed creating it. Be sure to hit the follow button, so that you can get notified when my next post goes up, and come Back to MK&A soon for more!!👋✌💗💛🤎
